Colt’s First Trip to Yosemite

I grew up going to Yosemite with my family every Easter break for about ten years. Our Easter break fell somewhere between March and April each year, so about 50% of the time we got snow during our visit. We had a motorhome growing up, complete with bunk beds in the back end, and memories of our annual trips to this beautiful park are some of my most vivid – and most favorite – from childhood. We hiked and biked and my parents made sure we were up bright and early every morning. We attempted Yosemite Falls on multiple trips when the three of us kids were somewhere between 6 and 12 years old… we finally made it to the top once I hit high school and no one had to be carried down haha.

It was so special to me to take Colt back to the place we did so many trips to as a family when I was young. What was even more fun – my family got to come too so it was like a three-generation affair. I’m sure it will get better and better in the coming years when Colt is more able to explore and do things. We arrived just after the Labor Day weekend and spent four nights in Lower Pines campground. It was not too crowded as most of the schools had started up again in the weeks just before our trip. We had really warm weather and everything was so dry. I think my favorite season in Yosemite will always be the spring when the falls and rivers are bursting with water and the air is brisk. We had such a good time, although four nights in Yosemite is too short! Can’t wait for the next trip. :)
