We had such an awesome beginner dslr photography workshop this past weekend- thank you to all who attended! I’ll be hosting another workshop on Saturday, March 14th. If you own a DSLR camera and you do not know how to use it to it’s full potential, or you’d like to learn how to take better photos by shooting in manual mode, this workshop is for you! Location is TBD. Fill out a contact form or email me ([email protected]) to sign up!
It was such a joy to photograph Krystal and Jesse as they anticipate the arrival of their sweet baby boy at the end of this month. I’ve had the pleasure of knowing this beautiful couple for a few years now, after photographing their engagement and wedding photos. I am always so honored when couples choose me to continue documenting their family’s story! Congrats, Krystal and Jesse! Can’t wait to meet him!

What a wonderful year 2014 was. Our first full year with our sweet boy Colt, who is now almost 14 months old. We have had so much fun watching him grow and enter into each new phase of development. We introduced him to our love for camping, including trips to Lake Powell and Yosemite and our 4-week road trip through the Pacific Northwest. Deven and I celebrated six years of marriage in October and we were excited to find out that we’ll be adding another little one to our family in 2015. I’ve rounded up one favorite image from each month of 2014 and have shared them below. Enjoy!

Deven and I have loved camping and being in the mountains since we first started dating. We have a clear view of El Cap, the Cuyamacas and Mt Laguna from our home in Lakeside, and whenever we see thunderheads or winter weather out east, we are always itching to head out there for an adventure. We saw last week that snow was forecasted for the NYE holiday and talked about spending the night up there in a cabin but they were all booked up. Tuesday morning the storm was starting to roll in and we wanted to head up there for the snow so bad! We called the ranger station and there was one cabin open so we packed up as fast as we could and drove up to Paso Picacho campground in Cuyamaca. It rained for most of the afternoon, on and off, but come dark the rain slowly turned to sleet and then snow. These little cabins (more like sheds) are equipped with one plywood bunk bed and one wood burning stove and that’s it – but we were toasty warm once that fire got going! It dropped below 20 degrees that night and we woke up to about 3-4 inches of beautiful snow and the most serene, peaceful scene. It was gorgeous. The clouds broke and we went for a walk through the campground, in awe of the scenery change – everything was white and so beautiful. Not Colt’s first time in the snow, and he still wasn’t too thrilled. I don’t blame him, it was definitely cold for this California family! I hope you all had a wonderful New Year’s Eve and Day with your loved ones – can’t wait to see what’s in store for 2015!
I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas with your families! This time of year sure does go by fast. We love Christmastime and can’t believe it’s already come and gone. This was Colt’s second Christmas but he was only a month old last year, so it was fun to see him unwrap presents and play with all his new gifts from his wonderful grandparents this year. We spent Christmas Eve up in Julian and then attended a candlelight service at our church, followed by dinner and fellowship with family. This Christmas I decided to hand-make most of our gifts, for a few reasons – we really try hard to avoid consumerism and the accumulation of “stuff” that we don’t really need, we also love to buy local and avoid anything made overseas, and lastly we wanted to save some money while still gifting something meaningful to those we love. I included a few photos of the gift boxes we gave, which included handmade lotion bars, handmade lavender candles, handmade chili lime sea salt, homemade aftershave, local honey and a few other goodies. It was fun to create! Deven and I also made gifts for each other, and Colt’s presents (from us, anyway!) were 100% re-gifted. Haha! We just wrapped up toys he already had, but we got a kick out of seeing him shred the paper to find out what was inside. We are so thankful for everything God has brought our way, this year and throughout all of our years.
Christmas has never been so special.

Happy New Year to you and yours!
