I was so honored to meet Courtney & JP’s little girl Ellery just after Christmas when she was 10 days old! Deven and I visited the new family at their home in Irvine and the pups got to join in on their second official photo shoot (view their maternity session here). :) Ellery is such a sweet, tiny beauty! I love these cozy pictures we were able to capture in the comfort of their home. Congrats, Courtney and JP!

Here’s a little peek into Colter’s nursery for those of you interested. :) I love neutrals and am not a real big fan of “baby-looking” things like plastic toys or primary-colored furniture/accessories. This room is so special to me because all of the furniture was my baby furniture – purchased over 28 years ago by my parents and used for me, my sister and brother. They saved it all this time in the attic of our childhood home and now I get to use it for my son! The two pieces of art are by Kelli Murray, drapes and lamps are from Ikea and the wall color is Behr’s Chocolate Froth. My mother-in-law found the organic sheets online at Coyuchi. The organic crib bumper and skirt are from Restoration Hardware – my one splurge made possible by cash gifts from beloved family and friends! :) Colt’s room is so peaceful with it’s soft colors and tons of natural light – it’s a good place to spend countless hours taking care of him. :)

Our little Colt is one month old today! I thought I’d do a little re-cap of our first weeks with him. When I look back at these early photos of his first days, I can’t believe how tiny he looks and much he has already changed. Yesterday we drove up to the local mountains and took him on a hike in the Ergo baby carrier – it was so fun and so nice to get some fresh air and exercise! I didn’t take a camera with me, but you can check out my Instagram-overload of Colt by following me @acresofhopephotography. :)

Our little guy is starting to smile (hopefully I’ll catch one on camera soon!), makes fists and loves holding on to dad’s fingers… falls asleep within minutes in the baby carrier, hates his car seat, loves Christmas parties (and being the center of attention), sleeps in his crib, only wakes mom up once at 3am, is wearing size 1 diapers and outgrowing his 0-3 month clothes all too quickly. He is a hungry little guy and clocks in at about 11.5 lbs now. Happy one-month birthday buddy!

I’m waiting on a few more rolls of film to come back from the lab… more photos to come! :)

Colter’s first photo shoot at home – 6 days old. I can’t believe how much he has changed and how much bigger he seems already – I’m sure I’ll be saying that on repeat for the next 18 years. :) He was 3 weeks old on Saturday and we are adjusting to our new schedule and life together. It is pretty incredible to have a little person that needs you 24 hrs a day / 7 days a week. And by incredible I mean life-altering, tiring exhausting, at times frustrating, and yet so rewarding. My daily routine has slowed to a halt – it takes hours to get ready to go anywhere, breakfast doesn’t necessarily happen anytime before noon, the best time to shower and dry my hair is around midnight… and it takes about 3 weeks to finish a blog post. ;) Oh and we do laundry every single day so that we don’t smell like sour milk. Or poop.

Colt, I can’t believe you’ll be a month old next weekend. Everyone told us that time starts flying by even faster when you have kids and they sure are right. You and me – we’ve had our ups and downs the last three weeks battling pain, sickness, infection and exhaustion. But this morning I planted a few kisses on your face while I was changing your diaper – and you smiled, and sort of giggled. I can’t wait to see more of those smiles and watch you grow and explore the world around you. I love you more and more every day, sweet boy.
