I met college senior Amanda a few weekends ago for a lifestyle session to celebrate her upcoming graduation in a few months! We had a great shoot out in the hills of Ramona – I absolutely love springtime here in San Diego. It is too short! Congratulations, Amanda! I can tell you have a great future in front of you! :)

My little guy is five months old! Time is really starting to fly by like everyone says it does. Colt is more and more fun each month! He weighs about 19 lbs now, is wearing 9 and 12-month clothes, size 4 diapers. He is so close to sitting up by himself – you can tell he wants to so bad! He is always straining to hold his head up; even in the carseat he won’t just lay back. He is a squirmy little bug! He rolls around on his play mat – can roll from front to back and back to front now! Although sometimes it’s still too much work and he gives up, lol! There have been a few times now where I’ve put him down for a nap, and when I go into his room to get him once he’s awake he’s done a full 180 and has rolled over – little acrobat!

Colt is such a laid-back baby; he is so happy all the time! He is a great sleeper (still sleeping 11 hours every night!), a great traveler, is very flexible, and works hard too! He and Deven join me on most of my family sessions; it’s so fun to have both of them by my side. It’s a challenge to run a business full-time from home and take care of this little guy every waking minute of the day, but I’m also beyond thankful that I can be at home with him throughout these early months. Even on busy, stressful days, he brings such joy to my routine.

I love you so much, Colty-bear!

I had the privilege of photographing Samantha and Jake’s maternity session at home a few weeks ago. It is so special to me to be able to photograph a couple’s engagement session, wedding, maternity and then newborn photos! I love watching Samantha and Jake’s family grow, and I’m so humbled and blessed that they’ve asked me to document this incredible season of their lives. They have a really awesome story and Samantha has been blogging about it for the past 8 months – you can check out her blog here. Samantha & Jake, I’m so excited for you guys to experience parenthood – it really is as amazing as everyone says it is! We can’t wait to meet you, Sawyer – but just stay in there a little longer before you make your debut. ;)

Colt turned four months old this past Sunday! He is weighing in at 17.5 lbs, wearing mostly 6-9 and 6-12 month clothes, still in size 3 diapers. Thank goodness – two whole months in the same diaper size. Phew!

The little dude is starting to “talk” – making oohs and aahs and all sorts of expressions that go along with them. He also laughed out loud for the first time! I was tickling him while grandma was making silly noises and he laughed long enough for daddy to get it all on video – seriously the cutest thing ever! I still giggle every time I watch it.

Colt still loves bath time but some of his new favorite things are bedtime stories, reaching for and touching new (shiny) things, and also sitting in the Bumbo next to Denali and either watching the world outside the screen door or yanking on the poor dog’s fur and ears. Who am I kidding… she loves the attention.

Mom is currently reading Super Nutrition for Babies in preparation for Colt’s first foods! We plan to start experimenting with solids at six months old. I cannot recommend that book enough! It’s changing my life! Next up on the list is The Nourishing Traditions Book of Baby & Child Care and Real Food for Mother and Baby (thanks to our dear friend Brittany for recommending all three).

It really is an amazing thing to watch our little boy grow and learn. The moments when Deven and I exchange a look that says, “he’s never done that before!” are some of my favorite. Nothing beats being a parent alongside your best friend. Speaking of, Deven flew out to Georgia yesterday to build the Macon Mud Run (which operates solely as a fundraiser to benefit the children living at Hephzibah Children’s Home), and Colt and I get to join him next week to take photos of the construction of the course and the race itself! Thanks to all my mommies on Facebook, I feel pretty prepared for our first cross-country flight. :)

What a joy to be this young man’s momma…

Andrew James was born February 17th to a very proud mommy and daddy! He is a handsome little guy and I was very honored to photograph him at two weeks old in his home.
